City on a Hill
Welcome to City on a Hill!

All children ages 3-12 are warmly invited to join our City on a Hill, the name we have given our awesome children’s ministry here at EBCG!

City on a Hill meets together after joining the rest of the church in worship. We gather to sing our own songs. We sometimes play games. And we usually dig into the greatest and most hope-filled story ever told: the story of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! You’re going to love it! After our group time, our children are invited to join age-relevant small groups. Younger groups enjoy hands-on learning through games and crafts while older groups dive into how the story of Jesus is relevant to their lives today.

Both our City on a Hill teaching team and our kids are multicultural and multilingual, so there is a place for everyone to fit in! Our five classes are led by teachers who have committed to following Christ and who undergo a vetting process by our leadership team. Teachers also go through professional safeguarding training. We take your children’s safety seriously!

Children ages 6 months to 2 years aren't left out of our ministry! We welcome infants in our crèche where they can play with toys, have a snack, and be cared for by professional child-minders. If your child is a little clingy, you are more than welcome to hang around until they feel right at home.

Our Commitment
At City on a Hill, we are passionate about sharing the Gospel with your children so that they long for a life with Jesus and where children are equipped to face life’s challenges.

We pray City on a Hill will be a place where your child learns about who God has made him/her to be, dancing free in their unique giftings.

Finally, we trust that City on a Hill will provide all of our children with opportunities to look outside of themselves and pour into others. For this reason, we have invited them to partner financially together in support of a little girl named Kiniba. Being from Mali, she speaks French like a lot of us, so we can communicate easily with her as well! This year, many of us will give one of our own toys and get to wrap special Christmas boxes together for kids living in Eastern Europe. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

Our children’s ministry commits to being:
  1. Gospel-centred
  2. Life-changing
  3. Nourishing
  4. Relational
  5. Intentional
  6. Family-supporting
  7. Prayerful
  8. A safe place
  9. Fun and relevant
  10. Outreach and missions focussed
"You are the light that shines for the world to see. You are like a city built on a hill that cannot be hidden. People don’t hide a lamp under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand. Then the light shines for everyone in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.”  (Matthew 5: 14 -16)
Events and Activities
City on a Hill has lots of regular events that your children will love. Some recent memories include:
  • An in-house restaurant set up by the kids with lunch served by the kids for the parents
  • A rotating craft and game station day, bringing Christmas and Easter to life in a hands-on way
  • A weekend in the mountains to learn about God’s awesome power throughout the Bible
  • Children leading the church service once a quarter as the church family’s commitment to watch our kids grow in their own faith
  • A hot dog and popsicle outing to the pirate-ship park
