Who We Are

Who We Are
We are an international English-speaking community with the heart to equip and release all generations into their Kingdom identity and calling.

The most profound image of the Church in the New Testament is of a body, made up of many parts, with each part doing its work. Our community desires to come alongside one another and equip one another to do the work God has called each of us to do. “From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” (Ephesians 4:16)

Our logo is a picture of the Cross stretching over the globe, with diverse colors and shapes representing a diversity of gifts, of cultures, of nations and generations. A commitment to the unity of the Holy Spirit and placing a high value on diversity are a critical part of our DNA.

History
Founded in 1970 by a group of English-speaking families, our community was served by Pastor Derek Adamsbaum until 2002, Pastor Derek Frank from 2002-2013, and Pastor Sam Fiore since 2013. Over the years, our community has touched the lives of countless believers during their stay in Geneva.

We have historically gathered in the Chapelle de l'Oratoire in the Old Town. Built in 1834, the Oratoire grew out of the Genevan revival. It was a place of spiritual awakening and the founding place of the Red Cross under Henri Dunant.

Since 2016, our community has gathered at the Carouge Temple. The temple was built in 1818 as a result of an edict of religious tolerance, ending the persecution of Carouge's large Jewish and Protestant communities.

200 years later, our community seeks to stand in the same faithful traditions of fellowship, teaching, prayer, worship and outreach.

In 2020, we celebrated EBCG's Jubilee Anniversary . See the highlights here.

Our Vision
Our vision can be described with three words: Worship, Equipping and Transformation. As we gather to worship the Lord, we are equipped and transformed by the Holy Spirit to bring Kingdom transformation to every sphere of life and every area of calling.

The purpose of the church community is to equip one another for personal transformation as we experience God’s presence and power. We are then equipped to bring about transformation every day in the course of our daily work. There are no 'professional' ministers. Instead, each one of us is called to put our unique gifts into practice.

“It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to equip God’s people for works of service…” (Ephesians 4:11-12)

Our 7 Core Values
Acts 2 describes seven core values that defined the first century community of believers after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. These are fellowship, teaching, prayer, worship, care, giving and outreach. Our community desires to experience the same Holy Spirit power and expression as we gather to connect with God and one another.

"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.  Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.  All the believers were together and had everything in common... They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." (Acts 2:42-47)
